Born Keanu Charles Reeves on September 2, 1964 in Beirut, Lebanon. Keanu, translation means "cool breeze over the mountains," his father is part Hawaiian.

When Keanu’s parents separated his mother moved and took him and his sister to New York City where they lived for a short time before relocating to Toronto, Canada where Keanu grew up.

Keanu left high school at seventeen to pursue acting. His performances in stage productions and TV movies eventually led to a role in the 1986 hit Youngblood with Rob Lowe, which was filmed in Canada. The film's success was only the start for Keanu.

Some of the movies to Keanu’s credit are Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure and the blockbuster hit Speed, co-staring Sandra Bullock. Speed was the first film to really distinguish Reeves as a big budget star.

In 1999 he starred in The Matrix, the first of a huge blockbuster trilogy. Followed byMatrix Revolutions (that grossed a massive $204 million worldwide for its first weekend) and then Matrix Reloaded. Keanu also played bass for several years in the band Dog Star, with whom he released three CD's.

Keanu was arrested in LA on May 5, 1993 for driving under the influence. Keanu allegedly confessed to the DUI. It has been reported that his mug shot photo made Reeves straighten his life out, it apparently reminded him of his father who was serving a 10 year sentence for drug offences.

Reeves is reported to be very generous with his time and money, lending to a variety of causes. He handed a significant amount of his profits from his Matrix series to 12 hard-working stuntmen.
